The Circle R Round-Up - November 2005 |
FILLIES AND STALLIONS
"Howdy Pard" and "How y'all" were just some of the expressions you heard as the Members Association annual dinner party got underway. Most members were dressed to suit the occasion as you can see by the pictures. Dewey the music man, once again, provided the music and entertainment while the dance floor was occupied by whirling dancing dervishes such as the Ekstroms, Lynchs and others. A good time was had by all and planning has already begun for an "Octoberfest" party next October 26. Mark up your 2006 calendar now for that date.

MACC Anniversary Golf Tournament Results
We had ten foursomes competing for the big prizes. The game commenced with a shotgun start at 8am and finished at the 19th hole with some very fine scores. With a 116 the Bassetts and Shimizakis tied for third with the team of the Browns and Garcias. Alone in second were Ray Miller, Billye Lynch and the Krstichs. The winners with a 109 (and I believe I did hear someone mutter "sandbaggers") were the team of the Harlows and Tankersleys. Congratulations to all!

ABOUT THE MEMBER'S ASSOCIATION OF CASTLE CREEK

All members of the Castle Creek Country Club are eligible to join. On December 15, 2005 we will hold a golf tournament followed by lunch in the banquet room. All Castle Creek Members are invited to join us as guests for this golf event at no charge except for a minimal golf entry fee and a discounted lunch. See or call anyone of the officers or board members for further details.

Manager’s Report
As most of you know by now, our great Chef and friend, Julian Tellames, has accepted a new position at the prestigious Seven Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield. His absence will be felt by all and we all wish him nothing but the best in his new position. Harmony Lopez will assume the position as Clubhouse Manager (to go along with her 17 other job titles!). Josh, Jessie and the rest of our great cooks will fill the void in the kitchen. We plan on continuing our popular dinner specials, with Harmony working on ways to improve both our service and food to make the View Restaurant the best it can be. Due to Harmony’s expanded role, I will make myself available to help you with any billing or member related problems. With the course back on track from the over seeding, we’re looking forward to a great November here at the “Creek!”
Larry Taylor- General Manager
News From The View
As stated earlier in this newsletter, there will no changes in all the popular items in the restaurant. The daily dinner specials have been well received, and the increase in business proves it. Nora will be my assistant manager, and will be on the floor when I am not available. We hope to maintain all the great features of the restaurant, and work on changing the things that need improvement. As I get my “feet wet”, I will be implementing the improvements. I will keep you posted in the coming months. Harmony Lopez- Clubhouse Manager
Oh’s Tee Shots
With our annual fairway and green aerification and seeding completed, we will now proceed with the over seeding of our tees. However, play will not be interrupted, as we will only over seed one tee from each hole at a time. Our goal is to reduce your inconvenience while playing. This year the weatherman has been very kind to us and we think you’ll agree when you see our new emerald fairways and greens. Because the new grass is annual rye, it is extremely important that you replace and fill your divots. Remember that rye does not grow horizontally like the Bermuda, and needs to be re-seeded each time. Tee Oh- Superintendent

MACC, COUPLES, SUNDOWNERS
What is this? If you haven’t played these events on Thursdays, you are missing fun time. You may have noticed these time slots on your calendar and wondered what they were. They are games generally played by guys and gals, usually paired as twosomes (sometimes as foursomes), in tournaments designed by the hosts of the event. MACC and Couples sponsor 18 hole tournaments played in the morning and generally followed by lunch. The Sundowners play in a 9 hole format in the afternoon and most stay on for dinner. The tournaments have a small buy-in to compete for prizes. Any club members are eligible to play. All you need to do is call the sponsor to get included. Try it, you are sure to like it. John Buerfeind
MEN’S CLUB NEWS
I am back from a long vacation and good to be home. I understand that the greens went south while I was gone, but due to a lot of effort they are back in good shape. November is the time for elections for the Board of the Men’s Club. After three years of service Hugh Salisbury is stepping down as tournament director and Vice President. I personally want to thank him for all of the work he has put in for the club. It is not easy to make everybody happy all of the time, but it is comforting to know that the job will get done.
We have new members and old ones that have never stepped up to the plate and become active in the men’s club affairs. That seems to be all I have to report for this month. Art Lynch, President.
SENIOR’S CLUB NEWS
The annual Christmas luncheon will be held on December 12th. This luncheon is free to all members who competed in 15 events or more. The election of officers will be held. Dave Bassett, President, and Ron Williams, Vice President have volunteered to serve for another year. We are seeking a volunteer for the Treasurer position. Anyone interested please contact Dave Bassett. Volunteers make things happen. Dave Bassett, President

On Oct. 21st our team hosted a team from Meadow Lake and won the match 17 to 1. Three players were awarded "At A Boys" for their net scores of 67 (Harbour) - 68 (Vanetsky) and 69 (Steiner). In the return match, played there on Oct. 28th, we also won by a score of 14 to 4.
