MEMBER'S ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES 16TH ANNIVERSARY

OKTOBERDANCEFEST

There wasn't much German spoken but there were a few brave souls dancing the "Beer Barrel Polka" and other foot stomping arm swinging tunes.  One member remarked, "It sorta got dangerous out there once in a while"!  There were a few members in what you might call Oktoberfest-Halloween costumes.  Next year's party, on Saturday, October 27 most likely will bring back the old fashioned Halloween attire.

Manager’s Report

I’ve been told that there has been some confusion as to what benefits members receive art Castle Creek CC. I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the more important “perqs” of membership:
 All Members
10% off all merchandise
4- week advance starting times
10% off all dinners in the View Restaurant
Golf Members
Free cart to all guests (up to 3)
Kids under 16- free golf after 3:00
Social members- “Free round after 9 plays” card
Our goal is to create a country club atmosphere while remaining open to the public. Our intent is that members should be able to make a tee time whenever they want, with few exceptions. Our company motto is “the answer is always yes,” and we mean it!
Larry Taylor- General Manager

Oh’s Tee Shots

By the time you are reading this, we should be mowing our newly over seeded fairways.  The emerald green winter rye will enable us to create the beautiful striping effect you see on TV.  This year we doubled our seed distribution from 200 pounds per acre to 400 pounds per acre.  This increase will provide a thicker, lusher turf - making a much more enjoyable round of golf. In addition, we purchased a new sod cutter to allow us to lay hearty Kikuyu sod on our troublesome #10-#12 fairways.  The narrow fairways are literally pummeled each day by heavy traffic, and need Kikuyu to survive.  You’ll be able to tell the difference between it and the rye by the thicker, coarser leaf. Our goal is to give you summer rule fairways all year round.

Changing the Finishing Holes

Last month we experimented with changing the last 2 holes on each nine so that the finishing holes would be our current #8 and #9. The overwhelming response was positive.  Some of the favorable comments included the fact that #18 would finish by the clubhouse and the traffic pattern made it easier to go from the front side to the back.  The only negative was the confusion at the interchange between the 8th and 17th holes.  Our plan will be to move the 16th green slightly forward to accommodate a cart path around the back to eliminate the crossover problem (the cart path on 16 would be moved to the right side of the fairway as well).  In addition we would create a new path from the current #8 to #17.  Our plan is to implement the change sometime late next year as part of the process of moving the cart storage to underneath the clubhouse.

Christmas Open House

Be sure to mark your calendars for Sunday, December 3rd, between 5:00-7:00 for our annual members open house.  We’ll be showing off our holiday decorations while sharing a glass or two of champagne with you.  In addition, we’ll be having our popular pro shop sale during that time.  Hope to see you here!

Notice

Flu shots will be available on 14 November from 2-4 pm at the Castle Creek Country Club and is available to those 18 years or older and in good health.  These services are at no expense to those with Social Security health insurance or those with MEDICARE and Tri Care for Life.  All others $15.

A warm CCCC welcome to Charles Newcomb, who joined in October.

COUPLES
The monthly “Couples” golf tournament and lunch will be held on Thursday, November the 9th with an 8:00 AM shotgun start.  Ken and Marion Smith, this months hosts’, have announced that the game will be a two-person scramble with the men playing from the red tees and the women from the green tees.  Lunch and awards will be held in the clubhouse restaurant immediately following completion of the tournament.  Lunch will not be an organized event - everybody will order from the menu.  Check in is at 7:30 AM and the fees will be the usual $5.00 per couple.
If you are interested in participating and have not yet signed up, contact Ken or Marion at 760-749-7940.  Ladies, we have a couple of extra men who would like to play this month but do not have partners.  If you are also a single and would like to play call Ken or Marion.  Ken Smith

MEN’S CLUB NEWS

This is the next to the last message you will be hearing from me, as my time of being president is coming to an end.  November is the election of officers.  I trust you will give the new officers and the board your support.
Desk assignments, if you are assigned desk duty it is your responsibility to show up.  It only happens one time a year, which is not too much to ask.  This is good for both the senior men’s club and the men’s club, if you can't make it for some reason find a replacement.
Meeting days, every third Wednesday of the odd months we have a men’s club meeting and lunch.  The men’s club has been underwriting the cost of the lunch and the member only pays five dollars.  This great bargain and it would be great to see more people attend.
Well enough said for this month.  Art Lynch, President

TOURNAMENTS

The low net over the field winners of the annual "Shoot out" were George Stiener and Ron Williams in "B" flight with a 68/53/67 - 188.  "A" flight winners were Steve Gjorkovski and Art Lynch with a 62/65/70  - 197 followed by "C" flight winners, Dan Boessow and Gale Harlow with a 66/59/74

RULES
“Preferred Lies” or “Winter Rules” have been in effect for the last several weeks due to the condition of the fairways during the aeration treatment and over-seeding that has been in progress at our course.  This might be a good time to review our Local Rule #1 - Winter Rules.  When the Tournament Chairman posts “Preferred Lies” or “Winter Rules” are in effect for a particular event then our Local Rule #1 is to be observed.  However, for this rule to be in effect, the Tournament Chairman MUST post a notice to that effect, otherwise normal play is the rule.  The key words in the rule are “in a closely mown area” which means Fairway, and “through the green” which means the area from the tee to the green excluding hazards and the rough. In simple terms the rule means that you can lift, clean and place the ball within one club length IF it is in the fairway.  Also be aware that you cannot move the ball with the club, your foot or any other way.  You must MARK the ball before lifting it, clean it and replace it.  Otherwise you will incur a penalty of one stroke.  Ken Smith, Rules Chairman

TRAVELING TEAM

A team consisting of Fred Holtermann, Hal Helfand, Ken Smith, John Lizotte, Dan Albee and Clell Ward played Encinitas Ranch on Thursday the 28th of September.  The host team was VERY accommodating, providing us with a nice 12 to 6 victory.  The return match here at Castle Creek on Friday October 6th proved to be an even more successful event with the home team recording an astonishing 18 to 0 win.  The final match of the season against the Escondido Hawks, was played there on Friday the 13th.  We should have known something bad was bound to happen on a Friday the 13th but we braved history and drove down there anyway.  The team, consisting of Myron Vanetsky, Ken Smith, Bud Barnes, Art Lynch, Clell Ward, and Bob Agnew were embarrassed by the score of 18 to 0!   Inasmuch as this was our last match, the team resolved to close out the year with a win and they wanted to repay the Escondido team for the lopsided loss they delivered to us at their course.  When Escondido came here on Friday, Oct. 20th. The local team pulled a reverse and embarrassed the visitors with a win by the score of 15 to 3!  The season ended with the local team sitting at 6th place out of the 20 teams in the League.

WOMEN’S CLUB NEWS
It just doesn’t seem right, but it’s true.  The holiday season has begun!  Once again, the year has gone by much too quickly.  We are now looking forward to our annual Turkey Shoot golf and luncheon event on Nov. 14th.  (That will also be Election Day for the 2007 board members).  Marion Smith has been working very hard to create another special Turkey Shoot.  There will be a delightfully decorated banquet room to celebrate the season as well as a lunch menu that promises to be quite tasty.  Marion is making some very special items for tee and raffle prizes.  There is a sign up sheet in the member room.  Please sign up ASAP to be a part of this day.  You can bring your canned goods donation at anytime before Nov. 14th.  Look for the large barrel that Marion has placed right outside the Pro Shop door.
Also in the works is the planning of the annual Christmas Party slated for Dec 5th.  Dee Dowling will be chairing this event.  Given her track record, this too will be a very well organized, fun event.  The sign up sheet will be posted soon and you can make up your own foursome.  This day will also include the installation of the 2007 elected board members.
The purchase list is now available for Sees candy.  The price per pound is $11.00.  This is a great way to get some of your holiday shopping done in the comfort of your own golf course!  Look for the posted sheet in the member room.  Remember, this is another fundraiser for the club.
On Nov 16th approximately 70 people will be taking a day trip to Viejas Casino.  There is still time to get in on this.  The cost is $10.00 per person.  The bus pick up will be at the CCCC parking lot at 9am.  Once arriving at Viejas, you can choose your day spending time in the Casino or shopping at the Outlets or both!  You will have 5 hours to have fun, fun, fun! The coupon book you will receive includes a 50% discount for the buffet.  If you want to sign up, please call Nancy at 760 749-5200 or Barbara at 760 310-0424.
By the way, a big thank you is extended to all the members who work ‘behind the scenes” to make things happen during all the special events.  It does take teamwork and the ladies at CCCC do it well.  Barbara Bell, President

TOURNAMENTS

A beautiful October morning greeted 32 golfers in the Susan G. Komen Rally For A Cure, now known as the Nora Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament.  The teams played a shamble format encouraging camaraderie and fun.  Mary O'Brien won Closest-To-The-Pin contest at the designated Rally Hole and is now the proud owner of an Adams Hybrid Six Iron.  The overall winning team, by only one stroke, was Karen Georgens, Cookie Johnson, Terri Petrell, and Marion Smith.  Despite no formal fund raising, over $450 was donated to help find a cure for breast cancer. Rally Ambassador Karen Georgens thanks all her volunteers who made the day a successful "in the pink" event.  Karen Georgens
